HES-IE Program offers free energy conservation/weatherization services. Services are determined based on income, kwh usage and the results of a needs assessment/audit performed at customer’s residence.
Program services may include:
* Checking heating systems for efficiency; cleaning, tuning and testing are performed when needed;
* Checking windows and doors for cracked glass, loose frames, caulking, weather-stripping, window locks, and door sweeps;
* Checking wall and attic insulation and adding insulation, if needed;
* Replacing older, inefficient refrigerators/freezers with energy efficient units if the appliance usage is high;
* Providing energy efficient shower heads and low flow aerators for the kitchen faucet; and
* Installing compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs and providing table lamps.
NOTE: PROGRAM SERVICES DOES NOT REPLACE HOME HEATING EQUIPMENT
NOTE: An incentive amount will be provided if a heating system is in need of replacement. Heating systems are offered if 1) it cannot safely achieve at least 68% efficiency for electric furnaces or 70% efficiency for gas furnaces; 2) it has been red-tagged or has been identified as unsafe and/or inoperable due to such things as cracked heat exchangers and if possible repairs would be too expensive; 3) if the heating system is leaking water from one or more cracked sections; 4) if the heating system is a coal conversion; or 5) if the heating system is a gravity warm air furnace.
